Sexual Harassment in the Media

WAN-IFRA WIN, BBC Media Action, and City, St George's University of London conducted a major study on sexual harassment in the media workplace across 20 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Arab region, Southeast Asia, and Ukraine.

This 2025 study builds on earlier research from 2018 and 2020 that identified persistent gaps in evidence on sexual harassment in media, while expanding the geographic coverage to include countries not previously studied, including Ukraine, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Sudan.

The composition of countries differs between 2020 and 2025. Some countries included in the earlier study were not part of the 2025 survey, while several new countries were added. Differences in the global figures may therefore reflect changes in country coverage as well as changes in reported experiences.
